Portrait of a Puffin, Watercolour Painting

I'm delighted that my portrait of a puffin watercolour painting is nearly completed. And I never expected that the background is bit impressionism. I truly look forward to seeing the painting completed.

Two Puffins, Side by Side, Watercolour Painting

Bathed in the soft light of a coastal afternoon, two puffins stand quietly along a worn earthen path, nestled among windblown grass and delicate wildflowers. Their vivid beaks and striking plumage contrast gently with the muted greens and ochres of the land, capturing a fleeting moment of stillness in their ever-moving world.

With a tender balance of realism and painterly charm, this watercolour painting invites us to pause—much like the puffins themselves—and appreciate the quiet companionship of these iconic seabirds. Through subtle textures and a restrained palette, this piece reflects a deep appreciation for nature’s rhythms and the intimate beauty of its less hurried moments.

Il Pozzo degli Etruschi, Italian Restaurant, Watercolour Painting

Step into a sun-kissed cobblestone alley in the heart of Italy, where time seems to slow and every detail invites you to linger. This watercolour painting, “Il Pozzo degli Etruschi,” captures the timeless beauty of a traditional Italian ristorante tucked within an ancient stone street, bathed in the golden light of late afternoon.

Rendered with exquisite care and warmth, the artwork draws the viewer into a peaceful, inviting scene. Warm terracotta hues and textured brickwork tell stories of generations past, while the wooden doorways and wrought iron signs reflect the region’s handcrafted heritage. The awnings stretch out to shade the neatly set tables below—each one quietly waiting for guests to arrive. A cascade of flowers spills from planters and hanging baskets, adding softness and color to the rustic setting.

The restaurant’s name, Il Pozzo degli Etruschi, evokes a poetic connection to history and place—“The Well of the Etruscans”—a nod to the ancient people who once inhabited this land. The spirit of Italian hospitality is alive here: comforting, authentic, and utterly romantic. This painting celebrates the beauty found in everyday life: the joy of shared meals, quiet streets, and places steeped in culture and charm. It’s a visual love letter to Tuscany, and to all the tranquil corners of Italy where art, architecture, and food come together in perfect harmony.

Created with delicate, transparent washes and subtle layering, the artist’s watercolour technique gives the work a luminous softness while preserving every architectural detail. It reflects countless hours of attentive observation and patient brushwork. Whether hung in a dining room, kitchen, or hallway, “Il Pozzo degli Etruschi” invites the viewer to dream, remember, and savor the simple beauty of everyday life in Italy.

Close to You – A Moment of Gentoo Tenderness

This is my second Gentoo penguin watercolour painting. This time, it is a Gentoo penguin with two chicks. In the icy expanse of the Southern Ocean, life is a delicate balance of survival and care. Yet even in such a harsh environment, love finds its quiet expression.

Kingfisher in Quiet Focus, Watercolour Painting

With its vivid plumage and poised stance, this watercolour painting captures the striking presence of a kingfisher perched on a textured, weathered branch. Rich blues and warm oranges are layered with care, bringing out the bird’s distinctive colouring and sleek form. The sharp eye and long beak suggest alertness and precision, hallmarks of this agile hunter. Set against a white background, the composition draws all attention to the bird’s beauty and quiet intensity. Beyond its visual appeal, the painting also captures the spirit of the kingfisher: swift, observant, and solitary. There is a quiet intensity in its pose, a sense of stillness before action. The texture of the branch, rough and organic, adds a grounded contrast to the smooth feathers and sleek silhouette of the bird, enhancing the composition’s balance and natural realism. Altogether, this watercolour painting offers not only a beautifully observed study of a kingfisher but also an invitation to appreciate the stillness and sharp vitality found in nature.

Squirrel Posting Letter

On a quiet winter morning, Squirrel set out through the snowy woods, a carefully written letter tucked under his arm. His destination: Owl’s red post office at the edge of the clearing.

Inside, Owl and Sheep were busy sorting parcels and letters. They both worked at the post office, serving the forest animals with care and cheer. But when they saw Squirrel arriving in the snow, they paused. It wasn’t often someone came all the way on foot.

The letter was addressed to Badger—Squirrel’s good friend who lived further north, where the snow was deeper and the trees grew closer together.

No one knows exactly what the letter said. Perhaps it was a thank you. Perhaps it was a simple “I miss you.” But in a forest where kindness matters, even the smallest letters carry warmth.

Shieldaig Serenity – Scottish Highlands Landscape

Shieldaig Serenity – Scottish Highlands Landscape is my first Scottish landscape watercolor painting! The painting captures the beauty in the rugged wilderness of the Scottish Highlands. Inspired by the peaceful village of Shieldaig in Wester Ross.

Grace in Solitude - Puffin Watercolour Painting

A solitary Atlantic puffin stands quietly in a sunlit patch of windswept grass, its vivid beak and bright orange feet offering a striking contrast to the soft, earthy tones that surround it. The bird is shown in profile, calm and composed, its feathers rendered with delicate precision. Each brushstroke contributes to the layered texture of its plumage — from the smooth white of the breast to the subtle greys and blacks that define its wings and back.

A New Puffin Watercolour Painting in the Making

There’s something about puffins that never fails to capture my heart — maybe it’s their bright beaks, or the way they waddle with such quiet confidence.

Right now, I’m working on a new puffin watercolor painting. It's still a work-in-progress, but I wanted to share a little peek behind the scenes. The background has a soft wash of green and yellow — just enough to hint at breezy grasses or a gentle coastal light. But the real focus is the puffin, standing calmly, as if caught in a quiet moment of thought (or maybe watching the waves for fish!).

I’ve always found joy in painting birds, and puffins especially. Their expressions can be surprisingly tender, even a little comical at times. I’ll be turning this piece into a limited edition of 7 art prints once it’s finished.

Stay tuned for the final reveal — and thank you for following along on this artistic journey! 😊
